The battery is one of the most important part of a vape pen—you can’t vape without it.
Vape batteries will of course need recharging once they deplete.
You might think that charging your vape is a relatively simple process, and it is, but there are certain things you should keep in mind.
Not all vapes are the same, and you need to make sure you are handling your device correctly. If not, you put yourself in jeopardy.
This article covers how to charge different kinds of vapes and tackle questions you might have about charging time, battery safety, and more.
Vapes are powered by batteries, which provide the energy needed to heat the liquid and produce vapor.
There are three main types of vape batteries: disposable vape batteries, built-in rechargeable batteries and external rechargeable batteries.
All three are almost always lithium-ion batteries and all do the same general job, but each has their own specific benefits.
Disposable vape batteries are built into disposable vapes. These batteries usually can't be recharged, so once their original capacity has depleted to zero, they're disposed of.
Vapes with a built-in or integrated rechargeable battery have been popular for more than a decade. This is the most common type of battery, such as 510 thread battery.
Some box mod vapes feature specific batteries, which can be removed and recharged externally. These tend to be larger, higher powered devices with sophisticated functionality.
The first thing you need to do before charging is identify whether your vape uses an integrated battery or a removable battery. The battery type will alter the charging process.
If your vape has a built-in battery, connect the device to a USB charger using the charging cable that came with the vape.
If your vape has a removable battery then take out the battery and charge it separately in an external battery charger.
The Integrated battery is inside the vaping device and it cannot be taken out. It’s usually long and thin and connected to the cartridge.
A micro-USB or USB-C cable and an AC adapter will usually arrive with your device.
The device will have a micro-USB or type C charging port, which is usually on the side or bottom of the device.
Whenever the battery is low, a red light will appear on the device. It’s an indication that you should recharge your gadget.
Start by plugging your AC adapter into the socket and Inserting the other end of cable into the charging port of your vape.
Similarly, you can charge the vape by connecting it to a power bank, personal computer, or laptop via a USB cable.
Once everything is plugged in, check to see if there’s a light or LED screen indicating your device is charging.
As the Vape begins to charge, you will notice that the monitor or glowing light indicator comes on.
Charging times for different batteries can vary from 1-3 hours.
You’ll know your battery is fully charged when the indicator light turns green or shut off.
Disconnect your vape pen from the charger as it has finished charging.
You can then screw it back onto the cartridge to begin vaping again.
Now the vape on the market generally have overcharge protection function, no need to worry about overcharging anymore.
There are still vape devices that—like many box mods—rely on removable batteries, which are usually charged with an external battery charger.
The most common type of removable battery used to power vape pens are 18650s. These look similar to standard AA batteries, only bigger.
Of course, Some vape devices allow you to charge a removable battery inside the device with a USB connection. in this case, Just follow the instructions above to charge it.
If your vape runs on removable battery, you’ll need to take them out before you can charge them.
Look for the battery cover on the bottom or side of your vape. Once you find it, press the thumb latch or tab to pull it open.
Once you have the battery, place it in the external charger that should have arrived with your original purchase.
If you didn't receive one, you can purchase your own from any good device retailer.
Make sure the battery is securely in place. The battery’s negative terminals must correspond with the charger’s positive terminals.
Plug the External Charger into the wall and leave it to charge for around 3 hours.
The light on the charger will typically flash to indicate when the batteries are fully charged.
Advanced models might have a LED screen that display extra info, like the remaining percentage, charge time, etc.
After fully charging, Load the external battery back to the vape while paying attention to the arrangement.
Make sure you put the terminals in an opposite way-negative terminal to the positive terminal.
And that should do it!
Some disposable vapes are meant to be recharged with a built-in charging port. But most disposable vapes are non rechargeable.
Technically, you may be able to take the non rechargeable Disposable vape apart to charge the battery manually. Just follow the steps below.
Take the Disposable Vape's bottom piece out gently, until you see the red and black wires connected to a metal dot or a metal tab.
Take an android wire and strip the outside protective part off. when you see the wires cut the green and white one off leave the red and black one.
Hold the red charging wire on the red vape wire, and the black charging wire on the black vape wire. Put the wires on the metal tab or dot that the other ones connect to.
Wait five minutes then put everything back the way it was and it should work.
If it tastes burnt then add vape juice to the foam part. dont let the wires touch when plugged in or it will start a fire.
However, Do this at your own risk, which is very dangerous, as they are not meant to be charged.
Vape's Lithium-ion batteries boast high cycling capability and high energy density, which should be properly cared for to minimise risk and maximise power.
Following these instructions on battery safety will ensure you get the most out of lithium-ion batteries and make your vape batteries last longer.
The risks around vaping tend to come from counterfeit or faulty products, and poor charging practises…
What’s more, if you do have an issue you are far less likely to be covered by the manufacturers’ insurance.
So you should always look to buy reputable brands from reputable shops and businesses!
Different chargers have different voltage outputs, and using the wrong one that’s even off by 0.1 volts could damage your battery.
In summer and during heat waves, it’s worth bearing in mind that vape batteries should be kept away from direct sunlight!
Extreme heat (above around 75°C) can lead to the resin in batteries melting and deforming, leading to electrolyte leakage and explosion.
Over-charging or over-discharging your battery will reduce its lifespan and could lead to more serious issues.
Many modern vape devices have built-in overcharge protection, but it's still good practice not to leave your battery charging overnight or for prolonged periods unattended.
If you leave your battery unattended, and you do have a problem during charging, you won’t be there to deal with it.
Always charge your vape batteries on a clean, flat surface, away from anything that could easily catch fire.
Avoid carpets, sofas, pillows, and other areas where vape batteries can quickly overheat or be switched on accidentally.
In addition to the disposable vape pen, any vape you buy will find a USB charging cable in the box. Micro USB and Type C interfaces are the two common charging methods.
Technically, you can still charge your vape with any other similar charger that’s compatible with your device.
This depends on its Output, look at its specifications, Most Vape Charging is 5v 1A output, anything larger can cause a problem and cause it to overheat. Fast Charging is not acceptable.
So if you find yourself without a vape pen charger, you can try connecting the vape power cable to the android smartphone charger, portable power bank, desktop, laptop, car, etc.
However, We recommend using the charger specifically designed for your battery to ensure maximum safety.
When you use the device and find that the vape pen produces little or no vapor when it is working, or the indicator light of the vape pen flashes red quickly, it means it’s time to charge the dab pen.
The length of time it takes to charge your device will depend on the size of the battery in your device.
If you’re using a vape pen with a small battery then it shouldn’t take too long and most devices will be fully charged within an hour or two.
If a device has started to take significantly longer than it used to, you may need to replace your batteries.
Charging your vape is a critical skill that you should learn it well.
This comprehensive guide has provided all that you need to know about charging your device.
By following these tips, you can enhance the performance and lifespan of your vape pen.
