The grand adventure of vaping—where the first step is often a stumble, and by stumble, I mean a cough.

But fear not, my vaping novice, for the cough is the universal initiation rite into the world of vapor.

Now, let's not let a little hacking deter us from the path to vaping enlightenment.

We're here to guide you through the mystical arts of inhaling vaporous nectar and trust me, it's not as complicated as it sounds.

It's like learning to ride a bike, but instead of falling over, you might cough a bit.

In this post, we discuss how to vape correctly, whether you’re just starting or belong to the old school.

Read on and learn more…

What is a Vape?

Vaporizers

Vapes are handheld electronic devices for adults that produce inhalable fog-like vapor.

Vaping simulates smoking.

Battery-powered vape devices create an aerosol that looks like water vapor but contains nicotine, flavoring, and more than 30 other chemicals.

The aerosol is inhaled into the lungs where the nicotine and chemicals enter the bloodstream.

How Does a Vape Work?

Electronic cigarettes are mainly controlled, as their name suggests, by electronics.

Most e-cigarettes are made up of the following parts:

Mouthpiece: This is a cartridge fixed to the end of a tube. Inside is a small plastic cup containing absorbent material soaked in a liquid solution.

Atomizer: This heats the liquid, causing it to vaporize so that a person can inhale it.

Battery: This powers the heating element.

Sensor: This activates the heater when the user sucks on the device.

Solution: E-liquid, or e-juice, contains a combination of nicotine, a base, which is usually propylene glycol, and flavoring.

When the user sucks on the mouthpiece, the heating element vaporizes the solution, which the person then “vapes,” or inhales.

The nicotine content of the liquid can range from “very high” to zero.

Flavors vary widely, from “traditional” and menthol to watermelon and “lava flow.”

Some e-cigarettes taste like traditional cigarettes and even mimic the tastes of specific brands.

Types of Vapes

Vapes is quite a broad label, with many vapor products sitting under that umbrella.

We already mentioned how the type of vape can impact the technique you need to vape properly.

Disposables

Disposable vapes are, as the name suggests, disposable.

They are usually fairly basic and are a cheap way to get into vaping.

They do not require a charge to be used, so you can get your vape out of the box - remove the silicon covers from the mouthpiece and base and puff to get started.

Refillables

These vapes are good for the experienced vaper.

They can be reused, just add in new e-liquid or a prefilled pod, but will require careful maintenance to keep the device working long-term.

It is also good to keep in mind you have to charge refillable vapes - so if you are looking for the quickest device to get started with, take a look at disposable vapes.

How to Inhale a Vape?

Inhale a Vape

When you vape for the first time, the way you inhale can make or break the experience.

This is extremely important!

If you inhale incorrectly, it could lead to coughing or an unpleasant rush of nicotine.

Essentially, there are two ways to inhale a vape: Mouth-to-lung and Direct-to-lung.

Mouth-to-Lung (MTL)

MTL hits will normally work best in smaller vapes with high resistance coils, using high nicotine.

When you take a drag from these devices, no matter the size of the device, it should feel like sucking air through a coffee straw. It should be tight!

This type of draw makes low vapor and feels like the act of smoking, providing a similar type of hit to the throat that many smokers crave.

It’s a simple technique.

  1. Slowly draw vapor into your mouth for a few seconds
  2. Hold the vapor in your closed mouth for a second or two
  3. Open your mouth and breathe in the vapor to your lungs (not a “swallow”)
  4. Exhale after the vapor is in the lungs

Direct-to-Lung (DTL)

The DTL hit is mostly ideal for larger vapes with low resistance coils, using low nicotine.

Taking a drag on one of these devices will usually feel like sucking air through a milkshake straw.

This type of draw makes the most vapor and feels like taking a “bong hit," though it’s considered smooth and easy since it’s used mostly with low or zero nicotine.

  1. Quickly draw vapor directly to the lungs
  2. Exhale vapor almost immediately

Most larger vape hardware devices will have an adjustable airflow, and the nicotine content will guide you on how to inhale.

For instance, a direct lung inhale shouldn’t be taken on anything over 6 mg.

Vaping refers to the inhalation of vapor from an electronic cigarette, which emulates smoking without harmful chemicals.

The electronic cigarette holds an e-liquid, which is usually flavored and may contain nicotine.

With this being said, knowing how to vape for the first time can be quite tricky, even for people who have smoked cigarettes for a lot of their lives.

The best way how to use a vape doesn’t match up to the best way to smoke a cigarette, meaning many people experience discomfort when they first start vaping.

How to Vape Safely?

To make sure you are vaping safely, it is important to:

 1. Learn How To Use Your Vape Properly

First, you should know the right way to inhale and exhale.

You should know how to draw the vapor in properly, as wrong inhalation will result in a bad nicotine rush.

Different vapes have different settings too and you may need to adjust the settings to have an enjoyable experience.

Make sure you carefully read the instructions before using your vape and get to grips with how it works.

2. Inhale Less Vapor Than Usual

If you’re thinking of quitting smoking, you might be wondering how to vape safely by using less liquid than usual.

Inhaling vapor is still harmful, but the higher the amount, the more dangerous it’s likely to be.

One way to reduce the amount of vapor you inhale is to vape more slowly.

You can do this by simply holding your mouth open for a few seconds like you would when smoking a cigarette.

3. Avoid Using High Nicotine Juice

E-liquids contain different types of chemicals.

Some are safe to consume, and others are not, so the amount you take in should be determined by the brand and nicotine content.

Nicotine is an addictive substance, so you mustn’t intake more nicotine than you’re used to.

4. Keep Your Vape in Good Condition

Since a vape is an electronic device, you must be taking good care of it.

Keeping your vape in good condition is important for several reasons.

Not only will it ensure that your device continues working as it should, so it produces the best flavor and vapor, but it will also keep the device safe and clean.

A few key parts of vape maintenance are; replacing the coil regularly, cleaning the tank in between vape juice flavors, and checking the battery.

It’s so important to make sure you’re storing your vape device correctly too.

You should never leave your vape in extreme temperatures or direct sunlight, this can be very dangerous.

Bong VS Vape

Cannabis consumption has evolved significantly over the years, offering users a multitude of options to explore.

Two popular methods of consumption include using a traditional water pipe, commonly known as a weed bong, and a vaporizer, often referred to as a vape.

Both devices have their unique features and benefits, catering to different preferences and experiences.

Bong Experience

A bong typically consists of a water chamber, a bowl to hold the cannabis, and a mouthpiece.

Here are some key characteristics of using a bong:

1. Water Filtration

One of the main advantages of using a bong is its water filtration system.

As you inhale through the mouthpiece, the smoke passes through the water, which helps cool it down and filter out some impurities, resulting in a smoother hit.

This can be particularly beneficial for individuals with sensitive lungs or those who prefer a less harsh smoking experience.

2. Intense and Immediate Effects

Bongs are known for delivering powerful and immediate effects.

The larger hits produced by weed bongs can provide a more intense high compared to other methods.

This makes bongs a preferred choice for experienced users or those seeking a strong and rapid onset of effects.

3. Rich Flavour Profile

Bongs can enhance the flavors of the cannabis strains due to their minimal interference with the terpenes, the aromatic compounds responsible for the unique tastes and scents of different strains.

Vape Experience

Vapes have gained immense popularity in recent years due to their discreet nature, portability, and efficiency. Here’s what sets vaping apart:

1. Temperature Control

Vaporizers offer precise temperature control, allowing users to customize their experience.

Lower temperatures can provide a milder experience with more flavor, while higher temperatures may yield a stronger effect.

2. Healthier Alternative

Vaping is often regarded as a healthier alternative to smoking.

Vaporizers work by heating the cannabis to a temperature below combustion, resulting in the production of vapor rather than smoke.

This process reduces the inhalation of potentially harmful byproducts associated with burning plant material, such as tar and carcinogens.

3. Portability and Discretion

Vapes are typically compact and can be easily carried in a pocket or bag, making them convenient for on-the-go use.

Additionally, vaporizers produce minimal odor compared to smoking, allowing for a more discreet cannabis experience.

Conclusion

The decision to start vaping is a personal choice for adults to make, usually to combat an addiction to smoking.

Vaping has its fair share of pros and cons, but the act of vaping is considered harm reduction – particularly when the only alternative is smoking.
