Gravity bongs have gained a significant following among cannabis fans, renowned for their potent effects and one-of-a-kind smoking experience.

Their straightforward construction, cost-effectiveness, and innovative use of gravity have all played a role in their increasing popularity.

These devices have brought a fresh perspective to the smoking apparatus market, delivering an unrivaled experience when compared to traditional options.

Admirers of glass bongs are drawn to their efficient use of cannabis, pronounced impact, and the engaging aspect of customizing their smoking experience.

This article delves into the captivating charm of gravity bongs and makes a case for why it's the perfect time to give them a try.

What is a Gravity Bong?

A gravity bong works by using--you guessed it--gravity to first draw smoke into the chamber of your bong.

Gravity then comes into play again as the smoke is pushed into your lungs.

Gravity bongs work through a two-piece system.

One larger chamber holds the water.

A second, smaller chamber fits inside to capture the smoke and hold your bowl and flower.

Because of this two-chamber system, gravity bongs can typically hold more smoke than the average bong.

This larger-sized chamber makes for bigger, more potent hits, getting you high in half the time.

Types Of Gravity Bongs

Waterfall Gravity Bong

The Waterfall gravity bong is typically your simplest form of gravity bong, known for its ease of use and convenience.

A waterfall bong changes the air pressure, but via a hole through which the base's water flows out so that smoke is drawn into the smoke chamber.

Once the bottle is filled with smoke, the user removes the bowl and inhales, allowing the water to push the smoke into their lungs.

Bucket Gravity Bong

The Bucket gravity bong uses a two-container system.

One larger container is filled with water, and a second, smaller container (often single-use plastic bottles with the bottom cut off) is submerged partly in the water.

The weed is then lit and slowly lifted from the water, creating a vacuum that fills the smaller container with smoke.

Glass Gravity Bong

A glass geeb consists of a vase-like container with a bottle nested snugly inside.

The top of the bottle holds the bowl and can also be used as the mouthpiece.

The vase section is filled with water, and the bottle is submerged to fill the inner chamber.

When the bottle is pulled out, it creates a vacuum that pulls the smoke inside.

Reinserting the bottle causes it to refill with water, pushing the smoke into your lungs.

How Does a Gravity Bong Work?

Gravity Bong Work

Gravity bongs work by submerging a small, modified plastic bottle with a foil bowl attached to the top.

It is the foil that holds your cannabis.

This smaller bottle is then placed into a plastic container, bucket, or larger bottle filled with water.

The procedure harnesses gravity and then pulls smoke down into the chamber of the bottle as the user lifts the bottle from the water.

As the cannabis is lit, the bottle is slowly drawn out of the water and fills with smoke from your chosen, burning herb.

Once the bottle is full of smoke, the foil is removed, and the smoker places their mouth over the bottle’s opening.

As the bottle is slowly pushed down, gravity pushes the smoke into the user’s lungs for a highly concentrated herbal smoke in just one hit.

Once a smoker gets things just right it gives the benefit of consuming a full bowl of their favorite smoking strain all at once.

That is because the user is creating a vacuum through the combination of two containers and water that acts as the “seal”.

The higher the bottle is lifted, the thicker the smoke gets.

This makes taking a hit from a gravity bong an epic way to enjoy a huge amount of smoke in just one go.

How to Use a Gravity Bong?

Use a Gravity Bong

Though it may seem a little more complicated than using your average bong, gravity bongs are generally easy to use.

Once you get accustomed to the process, you’ll be smacking your geek like a pro in no time.

Follow these steps to use your gravity bong:

1. Pack your bowl.

Pack the bowl piece attached to your smaller chamber with the substance you’re smoking.

For a more even burn, finely grind your flower and pack it firmly into your bowl.

2. Spark up and lift the small chamber.

As you light your bowl, slowly lift the smaller chamber out of the larger chamber.

You may encounter some resistance as you lift the small chamber: you’re creating a vacuum with your water pressure that sucks the smoke from the bowl into the chamber.

3. Remove the bowl and inhale.

Once your chamber is filled with smoke, remove your bowl and inhale through the mouthpiece.

As you inhale, push the smaller chamber down toward the water in the larger chamber.

Inhaling while pushing this chamber down forces the smoke quickly into your lungs.

4. Feel the bong hit.

Instead of a regular bong hit, the potent smoke rushing into your lungs gives you a pretty intense rip.

You’ll get higher quicker with fewer hits, and you should feel a stronger high.

Gravity bongs are a great way to mix things up if you’re weary of your normal type of consumption.

GBs provide strong hits and challenge the boundaries of your lungs, getting you higher faster.

How to Make Gravity Bong?

Supplies needed:

  • Plastic bottle with cap (any size, but 16-20 oz. is ideal)
  • Bucket or 2-liter plastic bottle
  • Aluminum foil
  • Box cutter or sharp knife
  • Poking device
  • Cannabis (at least one gram)

Step 1: Use your box cutter to cut the bottom off your smaller bottle.

Step 2: Cut the bottom off your larger 2-liter bottle and fill it with water.

If you’re using a bucket, fill your bucket with water.

Step 3: Unscrew the cap to your smaller bottle and use your box cutter or scissors to make a hole in the bottle cap.

Step 4: Wrap the cap in aluminum foil, shaping the foil to create a small “bowl” divot for your cannabis.

Step 5: Use your sharp poking tool to make holes in the aluminum foil.

Be careful not to rip the foil!

You’ll need about 3-5 holes for proper ventilation.

Step 6: Fill the large bottle or bucket with water about 2″ from the top.

Step 7: Submerge the smaller bottle in the filled bottom half of the larger bottle (or bucket) until just the cap remains above water.

Step 8: Light the cannabis and slowly pull the smaller bottle upwards out of the water while the bottle fills with smoke.

Step 9: Once your bottle is filled with smoke, carefully unscrew the cap and put your mouth over the bottle opening.

Step 10: Gently push the bottle back into the water.

As the water enters the bottle, the smoke will be pushed into your lungs.

Pros Of Gravity Bongs

Stronger hits

Gravity bongs are designed to create a vacuum that pulls smoke into the chamber, resulting in a more potent hit than other methods.

If you’re looking for a way to get high quickly and efficiently, a gravity bong may be worth the investment.

Cost-effective

Gravity bongs use less smoking materials, as they can produce a more effective high by utilizing every piece of your herb.

Unlike traditional smoking devices, gravity bongs can also be made with simple household items such as plastic bottles, a bucket, and a bowl.

This means you can create your gravity bong without spending a lot of money on expensive equipment.

Fun and unique

Gravity bongs have a unique design that makes them fun to use.

If you’re looking for a smoking accessory that stands out from the rest, a gravity bong may be worth considering.

Cons Of Gravity Bongs

Harsher for new users

Because gravity bongs produce a more potent hit, the smoke can be quite harsh when you are new to using cannabis.

This can lead to a sore throat or coughing fits, although these side effects usually disappear the more you use your device.

Not very portable

Gravity bongs are typically larger and more delicate than other bongs, which makes them difficult to transport.

If you’re looking for a smoking device that you can easily take on the go, you should make sure that you get the necessary travel case (which is usually included in the kit you are purchasing).

Risky to use

Gravity bongs require a certain level of skill to use safely.

If you’re not familiar with how to use one properly, you run the risk of burning yourself or causing damage to your surroundings.

Luckily, our range of gravity bongs has easy instructions on how to use your device.

Regular Bongs or Gravity Bongs, Which is Better For Smoking?

Regular Bong

Pros: Smooth hits, customizable with percolators, wide variety available, easier for beginners.

Cons: Requires more lung power, might be less portable, and can be pricier for intricate designs.

Gravity Bong

Pros: Packs a punch with strong hits, conserves herb, easy to make at home, great for experienced smokers.

Cons: Harsher hits for some, DIY versions might lack durability and are not as visually appealing as intricate glass bongs.

Conclusion

The gravity bong stands as a testament to the constant evolution and transformation within cannabis culture, proving that even basic principles like gravity can be harnessed to create an elevated and unforgettable smoking experience.
