How To Use A Glass Pipe?

Step 1. The Right Type of Fire for Lighting a Bowl

There are three ways to light a bowl of smoking blend in a glass pipe: matches, fluid lighters, and butane lighters. Candle lighters and cigarette lighters are not suitable as they have a larger flame and burn too hot, which can damage the bowl.

1. Matches:

The traditional way. Strike a match stick, wait for the sulphur to burn off, then gently puff through the mouthpiece while moving the match in a lazy circular pattern around the bowl filled with herbal smoking mix or tobacco smoking substance.

2. Fluid Lighters:

Reliable in most weather but can harm the rim of the bowl and give an unpleasant smell and taste to the smoking blend.

3. Butane Lighters:

Reduce the risk of harming the flavor of the smoking substance. Help keep the flame where needed and avoid burning your hands. They are the most attractive and convenient lighters for fancy smoking pipes, although they are a bit of an investment.

Step 2. Lighting Your Smoking Pipe

Light your pipe correctly for it to stay lit. Most pipe smokers light their pipe twice.

1. Charring Light:

The first light is called the charring light. Gently puff through the mouthpiece while moving the fire gently around the smoking blend in a lazy circle. This will char the substance on top.

2. Second Light:

After getting the char on top, gently tamp down the smoking substance in the bowl and repeat the lighting. With experience, you can go through the entire bowl with just these two lightings.

Step 3. Keep Your Pipe Lit with Tamping

As you smoke, ash relics form on top of the smoking substance. Use a smoking pipe tamper to tamp down the smoking substance evenly.

Step 4. Smoking Pace

Aim to take puffs often enough to keep the smoking blend lit but slow enough to keep it cool and avoid a dreaded tongue bite. Hold the smoking pipe by the bowl to feel when it's too hot and slow down. Better to relight than smoke when it's very hot.

How To Clean A Glass Pipe?

Step 1: De-Gunk Your Piece

Remove any loose particles from the pipe. Run it through hot water and/or hold it upside down and gently tap. Use a pipe cleaner or paperclip to dislodge resin. Be gentle to avoid breaking the pipe.

Step 2: Place Your Piece in a Ziploc Bag

Fill a Ziploc bag with rubbing alcohol and place the pipe in it, ensuring it's submerged. The alcohol will break down resin and tar.

Step 3: Add Salt

Add salt to the mixture. Salt acts as a mild abrasive and helps scrub off residual particles and reach hard-to-reach places. Different people have different preferences for salt types; kosher salt is a popular choice.

Step 4: Seal Bag and Shake Rapidly

Seal the bag and shake the pipe in the bag for 90 seconds to two minutes (or until visibly clean). You can put your hands in the bag and use your fingers to close off the openings of the pipe to shake the mixture inside the chamber.

Step 5: Pour Out, Rinse & Repeat

Pour out the dark brown solution. Refill the bag with alcohol and repeat the process. Run the pipe under water to remove loose remains. For extra dirty pipes, soak for several hours or overnight. Do a final rinse with hot water and discard the solution in the toilet, not the sink.

Step 6: Buff Up Your Piece With Q-Tips or Cotton

Depending on your level of perfectionism, you can use Q-tips and a little alcohol to clean any leftover residue.
